Nansha Port Railway Hongqili Waterway Bridge Wins Theodore Cooper Medal

According to recent news on the official website of the International Bridge Conference (IBC), the Hongqili Waterway Bridge of the Nansha Port Railway has been honored with the Theodore Cooper Medal. The project was jointly built by China Railway Shanhaiguan Bridge Group Co., Ltd. (CRSBG) and China Railway Jiujiang Bridge Engineering Co., Ltd.The bridge was constructed under challenging conditions, with high wind speeds at the site, the convergence of four rivers, dense vessel traffic with intersecting navigation routes, a 770-meter-wide waterway, and a “W”-shaped riverbed. To address these constraints, the project pioneered the use of a flexible steel truss arch bridge with twin 360-meter main spans—the largest of its kind in the world—delivering high-efficiency coordination between superior spanning capacity and load-bearing performance. Huangmaohai Link Awarded IBC’s George S. Richardson Medal

The International Bridge Conference (IBC) recently announced the winners of its 2025 bridge awards. The Huangmaohai Link cross-sea passage won the George S. Richardson Medal, making it the only project from China to receive this honor this year. China Railway Baoji Bridge Group Co., Ltd. (CCBRG) was among the project’s co-builders.The International Bridge Conference (IBC) is a world-renowned academic forum with a strong global influence in the bridge engineering community. Established in 1988, the IBC Awards are among the most prestigious accolades in the field, often referred to as the “Nobel Prize of the Bridge Industry.” The IBC project awards are divided into seven categories, with the George S. Richardson Medal being the earliest established and most influential. Presented annually, the award recognizes a single, recent outstanding achievement in bridge engineering worldwide. Fields of endeavor may include design, construction, research or education.

China’s largest-diameter TBM exported overseas rolled off the production line

On April 16, with the gradual rotation of the cutterhead, the ultra-large-diameter tunnel boring machine (TBM) “CREC Patigharong” (CREC No. 1459) developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CREG) rolled off the production line. It will be applied in the construction of the Western Harbour Tunnel project in Australia. Designed with an excavation diameter of 15.7 meters, it sets a new record for the largest excavation diameter of a Chinese TBM exported overseas.The West Harbour Tunnel project is located in Sydney, Australia. Designed as a double-hole and two-way highway tunnel, it is one of the three core components of the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link (WHTBL) project. 10-meter Slurry TBM Rolled Off

Recently, the large-diameter slurry TBM jointly developed by China Railway Engineering Equipment Group Co., Ltd. (CREG) successfully rolled off.The slurry TBM has a total length of 124m, and is equipped with cutter head with an excavation diameter of 10.49m. It features a series of innovative design: 5-meter telescopic main drive applied for the first time on the 10-meter slurry TBM, adopting “spiral conveyor with dilution box +air cushion direct discharge” double channel de-slagging mode, rubber coated trailer wheelset, and anti-skid system, thereby guaranteeing the safety of steep gradient operation.
